our thread

Every rug begins with fine wool and silk sourced from regions known for their fiber traditions. The raw fiber is cleaned, sorted, and spun by hand in small batches. Hand-spinning gives the yarn a soft, natural texture and subtle variation that makes each rug unique.

our dye

We use natural dyes made from plants, roots, and minerals such as pomegranate rind, indigo, and madder root. These dyes age beautifully and create rich, layered tones that synthetic dyes can’t replicate. Natural dyeing also minimizes environmental impact and supports sustainable practices within our workshops.

design and preparation

Our design process blends historical references and contemporary sensibilities. Each pattern is translated into taalim, a coded weaving language used by artisans to map out every knot and line. The loom is then set up, warp threads aligned, and a small sample woven to test color and balance.

the weave

Artisans weave each rug entirely by hand, whether through knotting or flatweave techniques. This slow process can take weeks or months depending on size and intricacy. Slight irregularities in texture or pattern are a hallmark of handwoven work and part of each piece’s individuality.

our finish

Once off the loom, the rug is gently washed to soften the fibers and enhance the colors. It is then stretched, sun-dried, and sheared for a smooth, even surface. Edges and fringes are finished by hand to ensure strength and longevity.
